Pack and prepare your goods, then send them to our warehouse 5 to 7 days before loading.

Shipping Insurance & Liability

Cargo Insurance is Required for All Shipments

Eastern Classics acts as a freight forwarder and logistics coordinator — we are not a carrier. We arrange ocean freight, warehousing, and domestic trucking through third-party carriers. Cargo insurance is the shipper's responsibility and must be obtained before goods are accepted for shipment. Without insurance, you bear the full risk of loss or damage. 🚢 Ocean Transit

Goods in the custody of the ocean carrier are subject to the carrier's own liability limits — typically $500 per package under international law (COGSA / Hague-Visby Rules), regardless of actual value. Marine cargo insurance covers the gap.

🏭 Berkeley Warehouse

While goods are at our Berkeley facility, Eastern Classics handles them with care and documents their condition with photographs. Our liability for warehouse-handling damage is limited to $1,000 per consignment. Insurance covers beyond this limit.

🚛 US Domestic Trucking

LTL carriers typically limit liability to ~$0.50 per pound. For a 50 kg item, that's only ~$55 in coverage. Cargo insurance ensures your customer's goods are protected door-to-door.

📦 Packaging Standards

The shipper is responsible for packing all items to withstand ocean freight conditions. Damage from inadequate packaging is not covered by Eastern Classics. Items must be wrapped, padded, and in rigid outer containers.

For damage claims, visible damage must be noted on the carrier's delivery receipt and reported to us within 3 business days. Concealed damage must be reported within 7 days of delivery. See our full Terms & Conditions for complete details.
